Change Vst Plugins Folder On Cubase
Posted By admin On 22.12.20So I've had Cubase 7 for about a month now, and I went to load up some VSTs yesterday, and see that only some of my many VST's are showing up as available.
*EDIT: In the 5th column titled 'File', I can see that the Instrument VSTs that are available are only the ones that show as .'dll'. All the Audio FX ones seem to be fine.
So according to the manual:
Installing VST 2 plug-ins on Windows systems
..On Windows systems, VST 2.x plug-ins are installed by dragging the files (with the extension “.dll”) into the Vstplugins folder in the Cubase application folder, or into the Shared VST Plug-in folder – see below..
So..does that simply mean copying & pasting the .dlls of each VST and leaving all else of the installed VSTs just where they are?
And this may seem obvious, but just what/where exactly is the 'Cubase application folder'?
I have my VSTs installed where they work just fine with my 2 other DAWs, [now sitting idle], so I'm hoping not to have to move or re-install them anywhere else.
Thanks Buds,
James

Some plug-ins may also have a standalone version which is separate from the VST version. Don't install the standalone and VST versions to the same folder. Install to the VST folder of your choice. Here are some recommendations for existing folders which you can use: C:Program FilesVSTPlugins.
Moving the VST plugins folder after everything has been installed: Simple, or bad idea? Is moving your VST plugins folder (and its contents) really as easy and simple as just telling your sequencer where you moved it (and its contents) to? Or is there a registry hack that needs to be performed as well? Open Cubase and open the Plug-in Manager found under the 'Devices' tab. Click the cog wheel to open the 'Plug-in Manager Settings. Next, click the 'Rescan All' button as show in the image below: WINDOWS users will need to add the default VST plugin paths. Open Studio - Plugin Managerand in the lower left corner, click the gear (options) icon. This will bring up all the current VST plugin paths. Highlight the one you don't want (you may need to scroll down if you have added a bunch of paths), and click the trashcan at the top of the sub-panel. VST plug-ins in Reason have the same priviliges as any other rack module or Rack Extension, so they can be used in exactly the same way. However there are a few extra things to know about. When you first launch Reason 9.5 it will scan your VST folders.

Installing and Managing VST Plug-ins
Cubase supports the VST 2 and VST 3 plug-in standards. You can install effects and instruments that comply with these formats.
Note
Cubase only supports 64-bit plug-ins.
A plug-in is a piece of software that adds a specific functionality to Cubase. The audio effects and instruments that are used in Cubase are VST plug-ins.
VST effect or VST instrument plug-ins normally have their own installation application. Read the documentation or readme files before installing new plug-ins.
When you scan for newly installed plug-ins or relaunch Cubase, the new plug-ins are shown on the VST effect or VST instrument selectors, respectively.
Cubase comes with a number of effect plug-ins included. These effects and their parameters are described in the separate document “Plug-in Reference”.

ü Relocating plug-ins: if you really need to change the installation path of a VST /VST3 plug-in, also remember that your DAW / host application must know the new installation path.
